TerraForge

TerraForge is a concept site for a custom metal fabrication workshop, positioned around engineering discipline: a customer's drawing goes in, and a precision-fabricated component or structural assembly comes out. The signature interaction is a full drawing-to-estimate workflow, not just a services list.

Custom fabrication is normally quoted after a manual review of drawings and a phone call — slow, and opaque to a first-time customer. The challenge was prototyping a self-serve path from drawing to estimate without pretending it replaces real engineering review.

Communicate machining precision and material tolerance through the interface's own visual language, not through descriptive adjectives.

I built a five-step estimating flow — upload a drawing, review auto-detected dimensions, select a material class, set quantity and fabrication requirements, and receive a preliminary cost breakdown — paired with a materials library comparing carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium and galvanized steel on weight, cost and corrosion resistance.

A precise, engineering-led dark interface with tight tolerances and technical readouts (±0.2mm, dimensional data, solid/CAD/technical view toggles) standing in for the workshop's own engineering discipline, rather than leaning on decorative visuals.

Built with semantic HTML5, modular CSS and vanilla JavaScript. The drawing upload, dimension detection, material selection and cost estimator are a fully client-side demo — no file is sent to a production system, and every price shown is explicitly illustrative.

A fabrication concept that demonstrates a genuinely useful drawing-to-estimate interaction pattern, while being explicit at every step that it is a working prototype rather than a connected production system.

Material and fabrication businesses sell precision; the interface should look machined, not decorated.
